On your drive home if you take Sydenham Street, there is a beautiful lookout stop at the top of the hill with a plaque that honours Olympic cyclist Clara Hughes and commemorates the steep section of road as "Clara's Climb". Unveiled on April 27, 2013, the plaque recognizes her training on this specific hill (which rises over 100 meters with an average 7.8% grade) between 1991 and 1998, during which she developed into one of Canada's most accomplished athletes. She is an 18-time Canadian national cycling champion and one of only five people to snag medals in the winter and summer Olympic games (two bronze in the Summer Olympics in 1996 and four medals (gold, silver, two bronze) over three Winter Olympics in long track speed skating.
